QWERTY packing, possibly MeeGo running Nokia N9 leaked

19 Aug

Someone is certainly stealing Nokia’s thunder before its Nokia World event scheduled to be held in London in September. After some sexy shots of the C7, today it is the 4.0-inch toting, QWERTY keypad packing N9. We have been hearing about the N9 for a long time now and have even confused it with the N8-01 (N8 with a slide-out QWERTY keypad). Finally, we seem to have the right device.

There is no commentary available with the pictures but what little we can glean from it points to a 4.0-inch WVGA display, a 12.0 MP camera and possibly MeeGo OS. Yes, the N9 could be the first MeeGo smartphone out of Nokia’s doors. It is most likely to be announced at Nokia World in September. We seem to like the spacious QWERTY keypad but all depends on how good MeeGo really performs at a time when we are addicted to Android and iOS. Hit the source link below for more pics of the device.

Nokia N9 (or N8-01) gets sized up on video

1 Jul

Another day and we have another unit of Nokia’s unannounced N9 posing in front of the camera. While there is still some confusion about what this device will be called (the N9 or the N8-01) but on the basis of whatever we have seen so far, we can confirm that this is a legit device and that Nokia, for a change, has managed to come up with some slick, desirable hardware.

Today’s video confirms the specs – 8.0 MP camera, a 640×360 pixel display, HDMI out and the usual specs expected from a high-end smartphone. But what you need to check out is how thin this device actually is! Even with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard (which by the way looks very usable), the N9 (or the N8-01) seems to be almost as thick (or probably slightly thinner) than the iPhone 3GS! The display is bigger than the iPhone’s 3.5 inches but smaller than the HTC Evo 4G’s 4.3 inches, which means that this Nokia device has either a 3.7 inch or a 4.0 inch display. Check out the video below and let us know what you think…

Nokia N9 gets handled on video, Nokia set to abandon its weird QWERTY keyboard

Nokia’s next (and probably the last N-series) Symbian smartphone has received a detailed hands-on treatment on camera. Yes, it has a Nokia N97-like slide and tilt display (albeit it seems to be a bit larger), an 8.0 MP camera, an HDMI out, multi-touch and all that you can expect from a high-end smartphone.

However, what really caught our attention was the flat QWERTY keypad with the spacebar key at its proper location rather than tucked away near the right corner that made users hit the ‘m’ key instead. Unfortunately, the N9 (that’s the popular opinion for its name) is still running on Symbian S60 fifth edition, which is something that even Nokia would not be proud about.

On a personal note, I believe that most of Nokia’s recent smartphones (barring the N900) had some of the best hardware that were let down by a buggy operating system and a dated user interface. Hopefully, the N9 will bring some glory to a dying/dead (take your pick) operating system and pave the way for some high-end MeeGo smartphones.
