Launched today in India, the S940 comes preloaded with an application from an online portal that helps your prepare for CAT, IIT and other competitive exams. Other applications include ’email2sms’ that serves your mails via SMS and a friend finder application from an Indian social networking portal.

LG to launch KT770, Wi-Fi smartphone

25 Jan

LG is expected to announce a new smartphone with Wi-Fi connectivity under the KT-series. Remember, the KT-series comprises Symbian S60 based devices, which would ideally mean that the KT770 should be a Symbian S60 3rd edition device. We expect this one to be announced at the MWC in Barcelona next month.

Update: We have stumbled upon some more information about the KT770. The device will indeed run on Symbian S60 3rd edition FP2 platform and will have a QVGA display. It will also have a physical QWERTY keyboard, though we aren’t sure at the moment whether it will have the ‘Communicator-isque’ form-factor like the KT610 or not.

Samsung Louve and Pivot details leaked

24 Jan

The folks at Expansys just don’t get it! They simply can’t keep their lips zipped and always let the cat outta the bag too early. Not that we’re complaining, anyway. After the recent HTC Iolite leak (preceded by the BlackBerry Flip) they are now talking about two upcoming Samsung WiMo devices, one of which runs on WiMo 6.5.

Airax Sarkari of Expansys’ Purchasing team writes about Samsung’s Louve and Pivot that will come in sliding and bar form factors respectively.

Samsung Louve

Tytn II like sliding mechanism that makes the screen prop up at an angle to the QWERTY keyboard
Windows Mobile 6.1
3.2 MP cam
Omnia-like homescreen widget

Samsung Pivot (not to be confused with X830)

Successor to the i780 with QWERTY keyboard
Windows Mobile 6.5
5 MP cam with flash

Sarkari promises to post more specs and pictures soon. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that he does that before Samsung manages to announces this gear, which we believe is most likely to happen at MWC next month.

Nokia XpressMusic 5730 marries music with QWERTY

21 Jan
This one shouldgo down as the weirdest contraptions ever in the history of Nokia phones. The 5730 ‘unofficially’ holds the dubious distinction of being a music phone with a QWERTY keypad. The peeps at Mobile Review have had the opportunity of playing with this unannounced XpressMusic branded device. According to them, the 5730 XpressMusic comes with a 3.2 MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, a QVGA display and a 3.5 mm audio jack. They reckon that Nokia’s gonna announce this one within the next 24 hours.

The 5730 seems quite similar to the E75 (pictured above) that was leaked a few months ago along with the now official E63. It seems that Nokia’s gonna flood the shelves with many devices flaunting QWERTY keyboards to take the game away from other Windows Mobile devices (read HTC) this year.

Acer to showcase Glofiish X960 at WMC?

19 Jan

We have stumbled upon yet another Wi-Fi Certificate from the Wi-Fi Alliance that talks about one yet-unknown X960 from laptop maker Acer Inc. The device, a WiMo handheld in all probability, will be branded under the Glofiish brand that Acer reeled in when it bought E-Ten in March 2008. Don’t be surprised if you see it rearing its head at MWC next month.

LG GW600 to be a WiMo device?

19 Jan

That’s right folks, we have access to the User Agent profile of an unknown LG phone that responds to the name GW600. This baby will run on Windows Mobile (see IE Mobile as the browser of choice on the bottom of the screenshot. But what we cannot figure out is the 320×320 pixel screen resolution. If true, this is going to be one weird device. As far as we can recall, LG has not had any GW-series yet and this seems to be the first in line of what we can hope to be a range of WiMo devices. (Though we secretly hope that the GW-series means Google (Android) and (Microsoft) Windows dual-boot devices.) We hope to meet face-to-face with the GW600 in Barcelona, which plays host to the Mobile World Congress next month.

Expansys UK to peddle unlocked T-Mobile G1 for Â£699.99!

19 Jan

We’d heard about Google handing out unlocked G1’s to developers but this is probably the first time that we are hearing about a reputed online retailer to offer them to the end consumers. Expansys has put the first Android phone up for pre-ordering for a staggering £699.99 (approx Rs 50,000)! Now that’s one helluva price to pay for a G1. Sorry guys, we’d rather wait for the next, refined versions of the Android phone from HTC.

BlackBerry Storm available on Vodafone India for Rs 27,900

13 Jan

Vodafone India has announed that the BlackBerry Storm will be available on its network from January 15 at a price tag of Rs 27,990. For those who have just returned from Mars, the Storm is the first touchscreen BlackBerry handheld. What’s surprising, however, is the pricing that Vodafone has opted for as it pitches the Storm cheaper than the Bold, which is available for approximately Rs 35,000. Probably, the folks at Vodafone took a leaf about the iPhone 3G launch in India and wisely decided to subsidise the Storm.
