XPERIA X10 line-up to get software update only by the end of this October

27 Sep

Sony Ericsson is still struggling to provide a software update to its XPERIA X10 line-up users. While the Android freaks around the world have almost gotten over with the last version of Android – Android 2.1 aka Eclair, the folks at Sony Ericsson have declared that they still need some more time for the roll-out of the Eclair update on the XPERIA X10 lineage (XPERIA X10, XPERIA X10 mini and the XPERIA X10 mini pro).

Sony Ericsson will only be ready with the update by the end of this October and here’s what you can expect from the update

XPERIA X10

  • HD video recording.
  • 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, folders and shortcuts
  • Automatic syncing of Facebook pictures of all your contacts in the phonebook.

XPERIA X10 mini and XPERIA X10 mini pro will get

  • improved Bluetooth functionality (sharing of audio and video files would be relatively faster).
  • Automatic syncing of Facebook pictures of all your contacts in the phonebook.
  • New back-up and restore app for with extended content back-up.

Point to be noted- It has also been specifically mentioned by handset vendor that the update will be made available in a phased roll-out and it will take some more additional weeks, which theoretically means that the XPERIA x10 users will only enjoy Eclair by the end of November. Truly, nothing can be more depressing!

Sony Ericsson announces XPERIA X8, Yendo and Cedar

17 Jun

Sony Ericsson has announced three new handsets – XPERIA X8, Yendo and Cedar and has also promised an upgrade to Android 2.1 for its XPERIA X10 series at the sidelines of ComminicAsia 2010.

The XPERIA X8 features a 3.0 inch HVGA touchscreen display and is based on Android 1.6 aka Donut. It will sport the four corner touch UI which was debuted on the XPERIA X10 Mini and the XPERIA X10 Mini Pro. A free trial version of Wisepilot turn-by-turn navigation, Google maps, Timescape and Facebook app will be embedded in the phone. Connectivity features will include – 3G with HSPA, A-GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The phone has a 3.2 MP snapper, 3.5 mm audio jack and internal memory of 128MB which is expandable up to 16GB (users will get a 2GB microSD card with the box). It will be available in select countries in Dark Blue/White, Aqua Blue/White, Pink/White and Silver/White colour schemes.

After launching the Xylo and the Spiro a few months back, Sony Ercisson has now added a full touchscreen phone – Yendo, to its Walkman series. It has a 2.6 inch QVGA display and is based on Sony Ercisson’s proprietary OS. The media player will include popular features from Sony Ercisson’s Walkman series of phones like PlayNow, MediaGo and Touch TrackID (to find out the name of the track with just a touch). Social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Orkut will be pre-installed on the handset.

The tech-specs include a 2.0 MP camera with 4X zoom, Bluetooth, GPRS, FM radio, 3.5 mm audio jack and 5MB of internal memory. The disappointing part is that it will offer only 3.5 hours of talk time which is pretty less and there is no mention of memory upgradation with a micro SD card. It will be available in the following colours: black, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, silver, white and yellow.

The Cedar will be the handset vendor’s latest addition in the GreenHeart series. It has a 2.3 inch TFT display and sports the widget manager 2.0 which lets you access social networks straight form the homescreen. The Cedar is 3G enabled and sports a 2.0 MP camera with video recording, FM Radio, 3.5 mm audio jack and will offer a talktime of 12.5 hours. Colour schemes – Black/Silver and Black/Red.
