Tata Indicom launches BlackBerry Bold 9650, priced at Rs 27,990

Tata Indicom has launched India’s first BlackBerry Bold series smartphone for CDMA subscribers. The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is a world phone (works on CDMA/EVDO network in India and GSM while roaming internationally) and runs on Tata Indicom’s EVDO network. On the specs front, we are looking at a 3.2 MP camera with flash, 512 MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, GPS and an optical trackpad.

 

The Bold 9650 is priced at Rs 27,990 and Tata Indicom is offering a Rs 900 data pack free for two months as well as 500 MB of free tethered Internet modem usage.

Tata Indicom and Fly Mobiles launch the CG588 QWERTY phone with GSM and CDMA connectivity

Tata Indicom has launched the Fly CG588 aka the X-LIFE on its network. The phone is a dual-SIM handset and runs a GSM connection and of course, Tata Indicom’s CDMA connection. The carrier will also offer a few voice and data benefits with a recharge of Rs 104 – 1GB of free data usage, 250 minutes of free on-net and off-net local calls and 250 free national messages.



The phone has a 2.2-inch TFT display and a QWERTY keypad. It also features Fly Buzz!, an app that allows a user to stay connected on multiple social networking platforms like Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo!, MSN and Twitter. It also has a 1.3 MP camera, FM radio, 3.5 mm audio jack, Bluetooth and WAP browser for internet connectivity. Inbuilt memory is expandable up to 4GB and a  2GB microSD card will be bundled with it . The Fly CG588 is priced at Rs 4,795 and will be available at all Tata Indicom outlets.

Tata Indicom now offers medical assistance on mobile

In partnership with Rx Healthcare, Tata Indicom has launched an emergency medical consultation service, “Doctor on Call,” to offer medical assistance to all Tata Indicom and Tata Walky subscribers. The interactive voice responsive service will enable a caller to speak to a doctor, who in turn would enquire about the medical history of the patient such as age, marital status, location, sex etc. And then the doctor would determine the category of the illness – acute (the doctor would suggets some home remedy for instant relief), chronic (the doctor would suggest some preventive measures) and emergency (the doctor would suggest the patient be rushed to the nearest hospital).



Sounds like a social service? Naah, users will be charged Rs 9 per minute of this special call.

STD calling for just 30p/min with Tata Indicom’s Ulta Plan

The CDMA branch of Tata Teleservices – Tata Indicom – has launched ‘Ulta Plan’ for its new as well as existing pre-paid subscribers. The Ulta Plan offers STD calling at 30 paise-per-minute and local calling at 50-paise-per-minute.



Existing Tata Indicom subscribers can avail the Ulta Plan by buying a Special Tariff Voucher (STV) of Rs 26 which will provide them the benefit of making STD calls across the country for 30p/min for the first 600 minutes after which the STD calling will cost them 50 p/min.



For subscribers who will buy a new Tata Indicom connection, the Ulta Plan can be activated on their mobile devices by buying First Recharge Vouchers of Rs 58 and Rs 104 respectively which will grant a lifelong validity and the packs will also offer a talktime of Rs 32.58 and Rs 74.29 individually. New subscribers can make STD calls for 30p/minute for the first three months without having to buy the Rs 26 STV.



However, there’s a fair usage cap for each month. The first 600 minutes of STD calling every month will be charged at 30p/min, after which the STD call rates will be increased to 50p/min. Under the plan, messages (both local and STD) will be charged at 50 paise per SMS.



Tata Indicom’s Ulta pack can also be activated directly by users by sending a message ‘GET ULTA’ to 12524.

Retail giant Future Group launches T24 GSM service with Tata Teleservices

Kishore Biyani’s Future Group has launched its GSM services under the brand T24 in India, with operations commencing in the state of Andhra Pradesh. In a first of its kind service, T24 is essentially running on Tata DoCoMo’s network and will offer subscribers loyalty minutes for shopping at Future Group’s retail chains like Big Bazaar, Pantaloons, EZone, Brand Factory, Home Town among others.



Tata Teleservices had announced this strategic tie-up with Future Group in February this year. The carrier offers GSM and CDMA services in India under the Tata DoCoMo and Tata Indicom brands, respectively. Tata Teleservices also has a similar tie-up with Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, which offers its services under the Virgin Mobile brand.

Tata Teleservices offers live streaming of Asia Cup cricket matches on mobile and PC

Tata Teleservices has launched services to live stream cricket matches for subscribers of its GSM and CDMA services – Tata DoCoMo and Tata Photon Plus.



Tata DoCoMo subscribers will have to download MiMobiTV, a GPRS based application that allows them to watch Asia Cup 2010 on streaming-enabled mobile handsets. Subscribers can download the client application at no cost while browsing the content is charged at 1p/1 KB in home network and 10p/10KB while on off net roaming. To download the application, users will have to send an SMS ‘LIVE’ to 54321 (Toll Free).



Tata Photon Plus subscribers can watch the live telecast either on their laptop or EVDO cellphone using the Photon TV app thanks to the inclusion of a new channel for the cricket tournament. The pricing for the event on laptop is Rs 5 per match; Rs 25 for the full tournament while Asia Cup is available absolutely free of cost for Tata Photon TV on Mobile. Tata Photon TV is available only on LG 510, Samsung Corby, Samsung M519 Metro & Blackberry 9630 (Pre imbedded) handsets.

India adds 20.31 mn wireless subscribers in March

India has added 20.31 mn new wireless subscribers in March, pushing the overall wireless subscriber base to 584.32 mn.

 

Vodafone added the maximum number of new subscribers- 3.6 mn in March. Airtel shares the second spot with RCom as both the carriers added 3 mn new loyalists. BSNL and Tata Teleservices jointly share the third position by adding 2.7 mn new subscribers on their networks.
