Tata DoCoMo 3G tariff plans revealed

9 Nov

Tata DoCoMo, which became the first private GSM carrier to launch 3G services in India has announced the tariff plans for its 3G offerings, according to Telecom Talk. Video calls will be charged at 66 paise per minute and ‘3G Life Plans’ will start from Rs 350 for prepaid users and Rs 500 for postpaid subscribers. All plans will come with bundled voice calls, video calls and data pack. The site is claiming that a Rs 2,000 pack would give 5,000 minutes of voice or video calls as well as up to 2 GB of high speed Internet browsing.

The carrier is also introducing a data card pack that will provide up to 15 GB of data usage at HSPA+ speeds (up to 21.1 Mbps theoretically) for Rs 2,000 per month. If the usage exceeds 15 GB, subscribers will get free unlimited data at up to 256 Kbps speeds.

If this information is true, it would make Tata DoCoMo the first Indian carrier to offer only bundled plans, a practice that is quite popular in the US. Rather than charging subscribers for individual calls, these plans offer flat rate usage under different tiers. Let’s see whether Indian subscribers will fall for such plans or not. What do you think?

Now pay only for the site you surf with Tata DoCoMo’s Pay-Per-Site plan

11 Aug

After introducing the revolutionary concept of pay-per-second last year, Tata DoCoMo has introduced a new arm to this famous concept. The GSM branch of Tata Teleservices has introduced ‘Pay-Per-Site’ concept (yes, you heard it right), which will offer ‘pay-for-what-you-use’ Internet-browsing model to its customers across India.

So if you’re the kind who pays a regular visit to only two-three websites everyday, Pay-Per-Site plan is definitely your thing. Paying those fat GPRS charges every month for your daily visits to two-three websites is just not justified. So keeping this view in mind, the operator has priced the Pay-Per-Site model for as low as Rs 10.

Tata DoCoMo users can choose between the two variants of the Pay-Per-Site plan: Pay-Per-Site plan @ Rs10 and Pay-Per-Site plan @ Rs25. Those who love to surf a single site everyday can opt for the ‘Rs 10 per month plan’ with which they can pay Rs 10 per website of their choice and will get 200MB of free data usage every month. The other plan is the Combo Pack which is suitable for users who browse multiple websites everyday. There are two schemes available in the Combo Pack- SNS Combo Pack and E-mail Combo Pack. Both the Combo Packs are available at a rental of Rs 25 and users will get 500MB of free data usage every month. Post usage of free data usage, Tata DoCoMo subscribers will be charged 1 paise/1 KB.

To activate the services, customers can Dial *141# OR simply send an SMS with the keyword “MY SITE’ to 141 and following further instructions OR visit Tata DOCOMO Dive in zone on mobile.

New Tata DoCoMo plan charges subscribers only for GPRS, offers free calls!

14 Jul

Tata DoCoMo logoTata DoCoMo has launched a new ‘Voice Free’ plan in plan in Andhra Pradesh that offers subscribers free local and STD calls on any network and charges them only for Internet access via GPRS. Before you jump off your seat, there is a caveat: users will get only 2,400 seconds (40 minutes) of calls every day. Internet usage will be charged at 1 paisa per KB. Tata DoCoMo subscribers in Andhra Pradesh can avail of this offer by purchasing recharge vouchers for Rs 200, Rs 350 or Rs 500 that are valid for 10, 20 and 30 days, respectively.

In a nutshell, one would be paying Rs 20 per day (for 10 days) to avail 2,400 seconds of calls (Tata DoCoMo was the first to introduce per second billing of voice calls). Considering that normally one pays 1 paise per second for local and 2 paise per second for STD, this ‘Voice Free’ plan still offers better value for money as the user is not restricted to making calls on the same network.

According to Tata DoCoMo, this plan is targeted at the student community who are heavy mobile Internet users as they would have to pay only for data usage. We believe otherwise. It would make more sense for a user to pick up a Rs 98 Internet voucher that provides up to 2 GB of Internet access in a month rather than having to pay per KB.
