Tata DoCoMo offers flat rate and tiered 3G tariff plans

9 Nov

We have finally received official word from Tata DoCoMo regarding its 3G tariff plans and it seems like the carrier is banking upon a strategy of flat rate plans for cellphones and tiered plans for data cards/Internet Tablets.

There are four plans for cellphones starting from Rs 500 and going up to Rs 2,000. For Rs 500, a subscriber will get 750 minutes of local and STD calls and 250 MB of 3G data. For Rs 750, it will be 1250 minutes of calls and 500 MB of 3G data. The Rs 1,000 plan will give 2,000 minutes of calls and 1 GB of 3G data and Rs 2,000 plan will offer 5,000 minutes of calls and 2 GB of data. Prepaid users also have a Rs 350 plan that gives 500 minutes of calls and 150 MB of 3G data.

In addition to this, subscribers can also top up 3G data plans with Rs 200 (200 MB) and Rs 500 (650 MB). These packs are valid for 30 days. Prepaid users can also top up with Rs 90 that will give 100 MB of 3G data and will be valid for seven days.

For Internet Tablets and USB modems, Tata DoCoMo offers tiered unlimited plans according to speed. Subscribers can check the maximum speed compatible with their device and choose a plan accordingly.

Users can also choose from basic plans at 3.6 Mbps speeds, which are priced at Rs 500 (650 MB) and Rs 750 (2 GB).

Tata DoCoMo 3G tariff plans revealed

9 Nov

Tata DoCoMo, which became the first private GSM carrier to launch 3G services in India has announced the tariff plans for its 3G offerings, according to Telecom Talk. Video calls will be charged at 66 paise per minute and ‘3G Life Plans’ will start from Rs 350 for prepaid users and Rs 500 for postpaid subscribers. All plans will come with bundled voice calls, video calls and data pack. The site is claiming that a Rs 2,000 pack would give 5,000 minutes of voice or video calls as well as up to 2 GB of high speed Internet browsing.

The carrier is also introducing a data card pack that will provide up to 15 GB of data usage at HSPA+ speeds (up to 21.1 Mbps theoretically) for Rs 2,000 per month. If the usage exceeds 15 GB, subscribers will get free unlimited data at up to 256 Kbps speeds.

If this information is true, it would make Tata DoCoMo the first Indian carrier to offer only bundled plans, a practice that is quite popular in the US. Rather than charging subscribers for individual calls, these plans offer flat rate usage under different tiers. Let’s see whether Indian subscribers will fall for such plans or not. What do you think?
