Olive Telecom to launch triple SIM phone in India!

9 Apr

Dual SIM phones (phones that can accomodate two SIM cards at the same time) are passe or so Olive Telecom would like us to believe. If its latest advertising in national papers in India is anything to go by, the handset vendor is set to launch a triple SIM phone that can handle two GSM and one CDMA connection at the same time!

Called the Wiz V-GC800, the triple SIM phone has the following features:

2.0 MP camera with video recording and webcam function
QWERTY keyboard
FM radio with recording
Expandable memory (up to 4 GB)
Social networking with Facebook and Twitter
Instant Messaging app
Bluetooth with A2DP

The phone will come with changeable back panels with an option of three colours – black, silver and yellow.

Olive hasn’t revealed the price of this phone yet, but we would be surprised if it gets launched at over Rs 5,000 in India. We wonder what’s next? A phone with 10 SIM card slots?

Olive launches a 'AAA' battery powerd phone in India

4 Mar

At a time when most handset vendors are dabbling in phones with solar panels to cater to rural markets that suffer from prolonged electricity outages, Olive Mobile – an Indian handset vendor with ties to Haier – has gone back to the basics and introduced a cellphone that can work on a AAA battery when the primary battery runs out of juice!

Olive’s FrvrOn is priced at Rs 1,699 and has a 1.5 inch display, FM radio with loudspeaker and comes with a stereo headset. Olive has not clarified about the talktime that a user would get with a AAA battery but we’d be happy if it can do an hour of calls and about a day of standby time.

The company has promised us a review unit and this is probably the first low-end phone in a long time that we are really looking forward to review!

Olive Telecommunication to launch its 'convergence' devices in India tomorrow

21 Dec

Olive Telecommunication, an associate company of the Haier Group, is set to launch in India its range of what the company’s PR likes to call ‘converged devices’. Earlier in September, Olive had announced a deal with Tata Teleservices to sell its Qualcomm-powered smartbook with a built-in EvDO modem. The smartbook is yet to be launched in India.

Apart from smartbooks, Olive also has a range of GSM and CDMA phones, which we assume are re-branded Haier phones. It is still unclear which devices will be unveiled tomorrow.

We’d be on a look out for the two Android phones (the one pictured here is the V-W1). Keep tuned in for more details and follow us on Twitter @cellpassion for live coverage of the press conference tomorrow.
