Moto Droid X: Makes calls, no matter how you hold it

1 Jul

Wonder what Motorola meant by the last few lines in this ad copy? (:P)

And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.

Motorola and Verizon officially launch the Droid X

24 Jun

First it was the HTC Evo, then the Samsung Galaxy S and today, Motorola and Verizon Wireless have lifted the covers off the latest flag bearer for Android – the Droid X. Yeah, we had already seen glimpses of the device and now with the official announcement, it is time for the Full Monty.

The Droid X has a 4.3 inch WVGA display (the same resolution as the Droid aka the Milestone), a 1 GHz processor, an 8.0 MP camera with dual flash that can shoot videos in 720p HD resolution, an HDMI port for connecting it to an HD TV and all possible connectivity options that you can expect from a high-end smartphone. Surprisingly, the Droid X still runs on Android 2.1 but both Motorola and Verizon Wireless promise an over-the-air update to Android 2.2 by the end of summer. Motorola has so far had a pretty good track record with Android updates, unlike HTC, which is yet to roll out an Android 2.1 update for the Hero in all markets.

The Droid X has 8 GB of internal memory and the sales pack comes bundled with a 16 GB microSD card. The superphone will be available on Verizon Wireless at a subsidized price of $199 in July. We hope to see a GSM variant for Europe and Asian markets being announced very soon. You can check out the spec sheet of the Droid X here.

Motorola Droid X gets real, shows up on Verizon Wireless

17 Jun

We all knew it was coming but no one could have guessed it was coming so soon. We are talking about the Droid X aka the Droid XTREME, the second generation of Motorola’s Droid series of Android phones (better known to us this side of the world as the Milestone). What’s surprising, however, is that Verizon has simply flashed it on its site rather than issuing a kick ass press release and telling the world what it is all about. The new iPhone, after all, goes on sale in a week and what could have been better than releasing a lean, mean, Android beast on a network that is better than the iPhone’s home in the US.

Verizon does not reveal anything about the Droid X that we don’t already know about. The phone will have a 4.3 inch display, 720p HD recording and HDMI out. What we don’t know at the moment is whether it will run Android 2.2 or Android 2.1. We have a hunch that this beast will run Android 2.2.

Hmm, seems like a good deal to us but it won’t be long before the Droid 2 is announced and that’s when we will take a call on which one to pick up.

Motorola Droid2 and Droid X commercial storyboards show up

14 Jun

It has been a very leaky day today, heck we have been reporting about leaks all through the day and it is now almost 5 AM here in New Delhi and we are still reporting more leaks. The latest one is the storyboard for the commercial for the unannounced Moto Droid2, which is expected to be announced very soon. The commercial indicates all the rumoured specs of a 1 GHz processor, new keyboard and a new aluminum/chrome finish of the phone.

Then comes the Droid X, which was earlier known as the Droid Xtreme. It will have a 1.2 GHz processor, a 4.3 inch display and will come with an EyeCon app that sounds similar to DLNA and shares all multimedia across devices in a room.
