Update: Micromax to sell the 'modu T' phone in India

19 Oct

We know we have been bombarding you with posts related to Micromax but we promise that this is the last and the final one for today. We can now confirm that Micromax will announce that it will distribute the modu T phone in India. Yup, the same tiny phone which was awarded the Guinness World Record for being the lightest 3.5G touch phone in the world.

The modu T is a sleek device with a 2.2 inch touchscreen, 2GB of onboard memory (expandable upto 32GB with a microSD card), a 5.0 MP snapper, FM radio and GPS. It also offers a couple of pre-embedded social networking apps.

And in case you’re wondering about the Micromax Android and the Micromax EG333 (EVDO+GSM) handsets, let us tell you that those phones are around the corner and we will keep our eyes peeled.

Update: We have been able to glean some more information from our sources. Modu will utilise Micromax’s distribution strength to sell its wares. The device is likely to be priced at Rs 9,999 Rs 12,500 and will come with two jackets – sportify and camerafy. The camerafy jacket will give it a 5.0 MP camera.

Update: It ain't Android; Micromax to launch the world's first EVDO+GSM, dual-SIM, dual-standby phone tomorrow

We don’t mind admitting when we are wrong and boy, were we sniffing down the wrong tree last night when we reported Micromax’s plans to launch an Android smartphone tomorrow! (For the record, we have blacklisted those sources.) We can now confirm that tomorrow’s press conference will see the launch of an EVDO (REV A 3.1 Mbps)+GSM dual-SIM phone that will also have dual standby. This means that both your GSM and EVDO connections will run simultaneously. The phone is internally called the Micromax EG333 (EVDO+GSM) and at least the EVDO radio will run on Qualcomm’s chipset, while the GSM radio might be sourced from MediaTek.

On the specifications front, the EG333 has a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 2.0 MP camera, and Bluetooth connectivity. It will support both Java and BREW apps and will have Nimbuzz, Facebook and YouTube apps pre-installed. It will be priced below Rs 8,000. And about that Android phone? Well, Micromax is still working on it and will be launching it soon.

UPDATE: Seems like we jumped the gun on this one as well. The launch of the EG333 is still some time away. Micromax is expected to announce the modu T phone instead.
