Nokia has launched its latest E-series device in India, the E5-00, for Rs 12,690. The smartphone, which replaces the E72, is based on the Symbian S60 third edition platform and sports a QWERTY keypad.

It has a 2.4 inch display, a 5.0 MP camera with LED flash and video recording at 15fps, 3.5 mm audio jack, FM radio and 256 MB of onboard memory. Of course there’s scope for memory upgradation with a 32 GB microSD card.

Like any self-respecting E-series smartphone, it has an MS Office suite app that can handle MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint files. The phone will offer a talktime of approx 12 hours on 2G networks and 5.5 hours on 3G networks.

Nokia's cellphone naming scheme revealed!

Someone out there has managed to click a picture of a chart that not only tells us about how Nokia will slot its phones into different series but also reveals a few new device names. The picture, which was first posted on a forum on Mobile Review, gives a glimpse of how phones get categorised into C, X, E and N series of products, Nothing new there – C for basic, X for music and so on… However, check out the E-series where we will have an E6 and E7 very soon, which would be slightly lower in specs than the N8. And of course, the N9, which will be the top of the line product for this year. Being an E-series fanboy (especially the mighty Communicators), I’m slightly disappointed that we won’t see a superphone from that category, though I’d love to see if Nokia has managed to strike the perfect balance between hardware and software in its two N-series smartphones.
