Google Maps update for Android brings Hotpot local recommendation engine

16 Nov

Google Maps for Android have been updated to version 4.7 that brings with it a new feature – Hotpot, Google’s new personalised local recommendation engine. This is how it works, a widget on the homescreen will let you rate places that you like to go to. You can then add your friends to Hotpot, who will be able to see places that you recommend. When you are looking to try out a restaurant in an unknown city, Hotpot will suggest places based on the types of places you have recommended in the past and where your friends frequent. Hmm, it certainly sounds like this could be a part of Google’s social network plan.
