Japanese electronics giant, Sharp, is set to launch its range of cellphones in India. The announcement will happen on November 11 in Delhi. The move would come as a surprise to many but we believe it is the best time for Sharp to launch its phones in India considering most carriers are launching their 3G (HSPA+) networks.
Sharp is a major cellphone player in the Japanese market and would like to bring its experience in making 3G phones to India. However, in the past, we have seen Panasonic enter and leave the Indian cellphone market as it failed to customise its products to meet the needs of the Indian consumer. If Sharp wants to succeed in India, it will have to price its products right and bring something more innovative than its range of flip phones, which is not a popular form factor in India.
