fring announces cheap international calls to landlines and mobiles with fringOut service

19 Aug

‘fring,’ the multi-IM client for cellphones, has launched a new service, fringOut that would enable users to make international calls to landlines and cellphones at cheap rates. Prior to this announcement, fring users could only call other online fring users.

The move comes a month after Skype blocked fring from using its services to make video calls on the iPhone 4 over AT&T’s 3G network.

The service is currently in beta and is available for Symbian S60 3rd edition phones here. Users can buy fringOut credit directly from the app using their credit card or on PC either via PayPal or credit card.

The calling rates are pretty competitive though it remains to be seen how these calls work over EDGE connection. Check out the rate list here and let us know what you think about it. We are waiting for fring to launch this service for Android or iPhone to take it for a spin.
