Rumour: HTC Sabor to run Gingerbread, sport 2.0 GHz processor?

1 Jul

File this under rumour rather than a leak right now but American carrier Sprint is preparing to launch the HTC Sabor, which will run on Android’s next version codenamed Gingerbread. The folks reporting this are also claiming the that Sabor would run on a 2.0 GHz processor, have dual-cameras with a 10.0 MP primary camera, a high resolution display and HD video recording.

The upcoming HTC smartphone destined for Sprint packs a 2GHz processor, over 1000 resolution display, Android OS 2.5 (gingerbread), 2 cameras with one being a 10-megapixel, 1080p video recording and built-in kickstand.

Now, the source is talking about Gingerbread as Android 2.5, whereas we have been hearing about it as Android 3.0. Also, it seems that HTC is going for its own variety of Super AMOLED displays after facing shortage issues with Samsung for its Incredible. It is more likely that HTC would have outsourced these displays from some other company (Sony, most likely) than manufacturing them on its own.

If these rumours are true, the HTC Sabor could very well have an Internet Tablet form factor (we can expect a bigger display from the claimed resolution) rather than simply an upgrade of the HTC Evo or the Motorola Droid X.
