Facebook launches fast and free mobile version on select carriers

18 May

Facebook has just launched its ‘zero’ version for users who access the world’s most popular social networking site on their cellphones. Available in 45 countries across 50 carriers, users will be able to access a lite version of Facebook without being charged for data access. In india, subscribers of RCom and Datacom (Videocon) will be able to do so by pointing their phone’s Internet browser to 0.facebook.com.

This ‘zero’ version is devoid of any photographs but users will be able to update their status, check their newsfeed, like or comment on posts, send and reply to messages or write on their friend’s Wall. Users will be charged for data access in case they want to see photographs.

Subscribers of other carriers can still go to m.facebook.com to view Facebook’s mobile optimised version.
