Nokia announces C3, C6 and E5 social networking/messaging smartphones

13 Apr

So now we finally know what Nokia’s ‘Everyone Connect’ event was all about. Nope, it wasn’t about the integration of messaging with Ovi Maps but rather three new devices with enhanced social networking and messaging capabilities. Let’s check them out.

The C3 will be Nokia’s cheapest phone to have Wi-Fi, priced at €80 before taxes and subsidies (approximately Rs 5,000). It runs on Symbian S40 and has a 2.4 inch QVGA display. It also has a 2.0 MP camera, FM radio and comes pre-installed with Opera Mini browser. It will be launched this quarter itself.

The C6 is basically a souped up 5230 with a slide-out QWERTY keypad. At €220 before subsidies and taxes, it has a 3.2 inch touchscreen and runs on Symbian ^1 platform. On specs front, it has a 5.0 MP camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and 3G connectivity. The C6, too, will be available this quarter.

The E5 (pictured here) is an upgrade of the E63/E71. Priced at €180 before subsidies and taxes, we are looking at a 5.0 MP camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and 3G connectivity. It is scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year.

There you have it fellas, Nokia is trying to redeem its share of shelve space with these devices at a time when newer brands have grown popular with their QWERTY keyboard, multiple-SIM offerings. Talking about multiple SIM, where’s your dual-SIM phone, Nokia?
