LG's first HTML5 compatible phone, the GD880, to hit shelves this month

7 Apr

LG today announced that GD880 aka the Mini will start shipping in Europe this month followed by other markets in the coming period. The phone was first shown at MWC in February but we first reported its existence four months ago.

However, what’s making the news today is that the Mini will be LG’s first phone with an HTML5 compatible browser, known as the Phantom browser. It will support Google apps like Google’s Latitude, Gmail, Calendar, Google Maps and Google Buzz services. Improved JavaScript and Flash performance means flawless video playback from sites such as YouTube. With navigation tools Intelligent Zoom and Touch-to-Zoom, web pages load at a size optimized for reading on Mini’s screen.

The smartphone sports a 3.2 inch touchscreen display, 5.0 MP camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, FM radio and 7.2 Mbps HDSPA. The price of the Mini has not been revealed as yet.
