Samsung launches Monte S5620 in India

1 Apr

Samsung has launched the Monte S5620 in India. Available in India for approximately Rs 8,850, the 3G-enabled Monte has a 3.0 inch touchscreen and a 3.2 MP camera. Other specs include Wi-Fi, FM radio, Bluetooth 2.1 and A-GPS (via network triangulation).

Like all Sammy phones, the Monte runs TouchWiz 2.0 with widgets for popular social networking sites. It has over 200 MB of internal memory and comes with a 2 GB microSD card, which can be expanded up to 8 GB.

Samsung has been leading the touchscreen feature phone market with its Corby and Star series of phones that have proved to be quite popular with youngsters. With the HTC Smart expected to hit shelves in another week or so, it would be interesting to watch how the touchscreen competition in the below Rs 10,000 segment plays up. Would it be Sammy’s feature phone army or HTC’s lone Mr Smartypants?

The only let down is that it does not support Qwerty. Extremely difficult to type msgs and memos on a touch screen without Qwerty. Hope they have upgraded the software to support this feature. Any feedback anybody??
