India 3G auctions likely to be delayed again

14 Jan

The empowered Group of Ministers (eGoM), have failed to reach a consensus on the number of players to be accommodated in each telecom circle for 3G mobile services, due to which the auctions of 3G spectrum is likely to be delayed again. The auction process has already been delayed thrice and this time the process was scheduled to commence on January 14.

Some of the issues between the Defence Ministry and the Department of Telecommunications have not been resolved. Either the eGoM Chairman will decide or another round of consultations will be held. In the last meeting the eGoM had agreed to allocate four blocks to private players but the Notice Inviting Applicants draft document later reduced it to three.
