8 Jan

Aircel is on the verge of launching its own application store in India. For the same, Aircel has tied up with Infosys Technologies which has developed an application platform christened as Flypp. At the Flypp store, Aircel users will find applications ranging from entertainment, productivity, travel, utility, shopping and weather.

Apple showcased its app store and since then there was no looking back. Apple’s app store overwhelmed the telecom market by gaining immense popularity and the downloads on the this app store has reached close to 3 billion. Other vendors like HTC, BlackBerry followed Apple’s footprints, while last year we saw Nokia launching its own app store, Ovi.

The common driving factor that in future will lead major telecom giants in the app store market is the fact that app stores attract abundant VAS usages by subscribers and it consequently aims to generate greater revenues.

The Flypp app store by Aircel will give an opportunity to Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to develop and monetise their proprietary applications across multiple regions and service providers. Most of the applications on the app store will be free of cost while some others will be charged at minimal rates.
