MTS commences operations in Delhi NCR region

8 Oct

MTS today announced its entry into the Delhi NCR market with the roll-out of its CDMA network in the region. The carrier is banking upon its network coverage and aggressive tariffs to acquire subscribers. The carrier is offering a one paise per second call rate for local calls and two paise per second for STD calls. To make the offer more attractive, it will not deduct any processing fee for talktime recharge and subscribers will get 100 percent talktime for every recharge.

MTS will also launch an EVDO USB modem later this month. Data services will be key to the carrier’s Arpu (average revenue per user). “We plan to break-even in three years. Data services would help us in achieving our target as voice tariffs are very competitive,” said Vsevolod Rozanov, president and CEO, Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd. The company currently has operations in seven circles in India and plans to have a pan-India presence by the end of December 2010.

Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd is a joint venture company between Sistema of Russia and Shyam Group of India. MTS is the eighth largest telecom brand in the world. Delhi is the seventh circle where MTS has commenced its operations. It has license to operate a CDMA network across India.
