RIM patents BlackBerry with sliding camera cover

13 Aug

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion is out there experimenting to see how it can appeal to the consumer market after dominating the enterprise segment for a long time. It all started with the introduction of the Curve range of handhelds in mid-2007 that had a video player, a 2.0 MP camera and all the multimedia works.

With an increasingly growing marketshare, it is but obvious that RIM is looking at ways to become more competitive in the multimedia smartphone segment. And pat comes this latest patent application that envisages a sliding attachment that not only protects the camera lens but also activates it.

We hope that with a lens that needs protection, there better be a high resolution sensor behind it that can also shoot videos in HD.
