Samsung today launched the Omnia HD and the Omnia Pro in India today. The Omnia HD is the first Samsung phone running on the Symbian Foundation OS and comes with a 3.7 inch AMOLED display and an 8.0 MP shooter. While the Omnia HD announced at MWC earlier this year totted a 600 MHz processor, the model announced in India has a 1 GHz processor according to the company’s press release. Probably, there are two different variants for different markets.

The Omnia HD is probably the first phone in India to be able to shoot videos in HD resolution. It also has an inbuilt GPS, Wi-Fi and HSDPA connectivity. It will compete directly with the Nokia N97, which also runs on the Symbia S60 fifth edition operating system. The Omnia HD is priced similar to the N97 at Rs 33,990.

At the press event in Mumbai, Samsung also launched the Omnia Pro B7320, which is a standard Windows Mobile smartphone (a non-touchscreen phone) with a standard QWERTY keypad. It runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 on a 256 MB ROM/256 MB RAM and a Qualcomm processor clocked at 528 MHz configuration. Users will be able to upgrade it to Windows Mobile 6.5 when it is released in October this year. On the features front, it comes with a 3.15 MP shooter as well as Wi-Fi, HSDPA and A-GPS connectivity. The Omnia Pro is priced at Rs 16,500.
