RIM announces the BlackBerry Curve 8520

In an apparent bid to be more competitive in the affordable smartphone space, Research In Motion has announced a cheap, QWERTY keyboard equipped BlackBerry phone – the 8520.

The 8520 is a 3G-less basic GSM, EDGE enabled device with Wi-Fi and a 2.0 MP camera. The device will compete with the likes of the Nokia E63, which is priced well under Rs 15,000, a segment where BlackBerry does not have any presence at the moment.
