Microsoft to bring iPhone competitor for Verizon Wireless: WSJ

28 Apr

As June comes closer rumourmills are gaining tenacity about what’s gonna happen to the iPhone and practically the rest of the connected humankind. While there were whispers about Apple entertaining Verizon (or was it the other way around?) by dangling not one, but two iPhone-like devices, a Wall Street Journal report claims that it is Microsoft, who is more likely to be able to push its device on Verizon’s CDMA network.

According to the report, Microsoft is working on a project called ‘Pink’, which is a device for Verizon that it hopes to launch early next year. The team that is said to comprise members from the Danger team Microsoft acquired last year, will provide the software while someone else will manufacture the device.

Meanwhile, the report also quotes that analysts believe Apple’s recent talks with Verizon might be to pressurise AT&T, which is trying to extend its iPhone exlusivity period by a year. The deal is supposed to end in mid-2010.
